Escales
Our Houses
In the south of France, to be precise in the department of Aude, lies a small village: Escales (dock). It is the ultimate place to experience the hustle and madness of everyday life to escape. The people here are so friendly, the atmosphere is so friendly and the surroundings so breathtaking that everyone will quickly feel at home. You have all the advantages of living in a village, overlooking the beautiful surroundings, consisting of vineyards, with the background hills, winding roads and bushes. Almost always under clear blue skies, lit by the warm southern French Sun
The village has an old town with narrow streets and many old houses, making it a cozy, traditional atmosphere. The early Romanesque church whose altar is made of a first or second century Roman sarcophagus is a beautiful monument. The monumental "tour" is dominant, just outside the village and it is your goal for a walk.
Of course there is a Jeu de Boules and a football area for youth and a tennis court. For groceries, there is a bread shop, a small grocery and butcher shop adjoining the French natural wine trade. The village has a restaurant: L Escale des Gourmets. For a supermarket and an exciting nightlife or shopping, go to Lézignan (approximately 7 km) or La Redorte (about 5 km away).
Nice trips in the area are Carcassonne (La Cité is a uniquely preserved 11th century complete town, breathtakingly lit at night), the university town of Narbonne, the nine locks of Beziers, the sandy beaches of St. Pierre la Mer and Narbonne Plage and Gruissan (all within 30 minutes). The beautiful countryside in the Haute Languedoc National Park is worth visiting. Even the Pyrenees, can be the purpose of your day trip.
For lovers of fishing is the Canal du Midi in the immediate area, boats for trips on this channel can be hired in Homps. The Lac de Jouares is an ideal opportunity for windsurfing, sailing, fishing and swimming.
Weekly markets are in Olonzac (Tuesday), Lézignan (Wednesday), Ginestas (Thursday) and Homps (Saturday).
