In southern France, in the department of Aude, lies the small village of Montbrun. This is the definitive spot to get away from the pressure and insanity of modern urban life. The peacefulness is so beneficent and abounding, that one quickly forgets that there is another world where everybody is so busy and has so little time to enjoy the pleasant things in life.
People are so friendly here; the atmosphere is so easy going and the surroundings so breathtaking that one quickly feels quite at home.
On the outskirts of this village, adjacent to the existing developments, an ‘Eldorado’ has been constructed by the Dutch who ‘discovered’ this place a number of years ago. With all the advantages of living in a small village, but also with panoramas of the splendid surroundings; vineyards which stretch out to the hills on the horizon, winding lanes and woods; almost always under a clear blue sky, warmed by the Mediterranean sun.
The village has an old centre, with narrow streets and many old houses, which gives it a cheerful, typically French atmosphere. For the daily shopping there is a small grocers and, of course in France, a vintner. For a supermarket or for more choice by shopping or an evening out, try Lézignan (approx.7 kilometer) or La Redorte (approx 6 kilometer further)
Enjoyable trips in the surrounding area are Carcassonne (La Cité is a unique lastingly conserved 11th century complete town, breathtakingly lit up in the evening), the university city of Narbonne, the 9 locks of Béziers, the wide golden beaches of St. Pierre la Mer, Narbonne-Plage en Gruissan (all within a half hour by car). The magnificent scenery of the national park ‘Haute Languedoc’ is certainly worthy of a visit; even the Pyrenees can be reached as a ‘day-trip’.
For the sport anglers the Canal du Midi lies nearby and boats can be hired in Homps.
The ‘Lac du Jouarres’ is the ideal place for wind surfing, sailing, fishing and swimming.
Weekly markets are held in Olonzac (Tuesday), Lézignan (Wednesday), Narbonnen (Thursday and Sunday) Ginestas (Thursday)
