Close to Saint-Chinian, in the foothills of the Montagnes Noires, lies the quiet and charming village of Assignan. Here, the light and airy villa La Cachette with pool offers the opportunity to spend a wonderfully relaxing holiday. Up to six people can be accommodated to enjoy exploring the surrounding countryside, sampling the local wines and cheeses or venturing further afield to explore all the Midi has to offer – whether on foot or by car, on horseback or by bicycle, by boat on the Canal du Midi or the Mediterranean Sea itself.

“La Cachette” (“The Hiding Place”) occupies a large plot on the outer streets of Assignan, tucked away behind stone walls and wrought iron gates and railings.
It has recently been completely renovated and newly furnished offering comfortable modern furniture and newly fitted bathrooms and kitchen, set in clean white rooms with beamed ceilings. There are traditional wooden shutters for each window to help keep the house cool in summer. Electric heating (with the exception of the smaller shower room) and double glazing throughout the house make it comfortable in the winter months or cooler off-peak evenings.

Inside:
From the front garden, the front door leads into a small vestibule with a door to the shower room on the left and two steps leading up to the kitchen. There is plenty of room to store a few items such as a picnic or cool box and swimming bags in the vestibule. The shower room is newly fitted and tiled and contains a toilet, wash hand basin with lighted mirror above and small corner shower.

The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, electric cooker (hob and oven) and microwave oven, as well as an electric kettle. There is also a washing machine and, outside, a washing line with pegs. The modern fitted cupboards contain complete cutlery, crockery and utensil sets and there is an ironing board and iron along with miscellaneous cleaning equipment. There is a door to the side that leads to the al fresco dining area and which can also be used to access both front and rear gardens.

From the kitchen, a wide square archway leads up a half-step into the dining room. Here is a dining table and six chairs set before tall French windows. These open onto the lower terrace and offer lovely views out over the pool area. To the right, another wide square archway leads to the spacious lounge. Again, a set of French windows access the terrace and the comfortable seating area is furnished with a large corner sofa and small armchair set around a low coffee table. Lamps placed on side tables give a lovely glow in the evenings after a busy day by the pool! There is a television (with satellite receiver) and both a video and DVD player. There is no internet connection but access to the internet can be gained easily via the Tourist Office or Médiathèque in Saint-Chinian.

A door leads off the lounge to the bedroom corridor giving access to the three double bedrooms and main bathroom. The master bedroom looks out over the front garden and is furnished with a double bed, two bedside tables with lamps, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers with a mirror above. There is built in book shelf and an electric fan for the hot spells in summer.
The two twin rooms are identical in size, one overlooking the front garden and one facing out over the terrace to the pool area. Each is furnished with two single beds, a bedside table with a lamp, a wardrobe and a shelved unit with a mirror above. Each also has an electric fan.
The main bathroom is situated between the two twin rooms. It is a spacious room containing a large corner shower, shelved storage unit, wash hand basin with lighted mirror above and toilet.

Outside:
There is a large gravelled garden to the front of the villa with ample secure off street parking. To the side of the house, there is a shaded eating area, sheltered by a soaring ancient stone wall, ideal for long lazy lunches.
The rear garden is divided into two parts, a lower terrace accessed directly from the house, from which stone steps lead to a large pool terrace. There is a spacious abri (shaded seating area) and pool house set against the far wall and the 8x4m pool is accessed by wide steps and has plenty of sunbathing space either side. There is a security fence enclosing the upper terrace with a gate at the top of the steps to ensure the safety of children.
There is a selection of outdoor furniture to take advantage of the various seating areas around the garden and pool.
Just beside the villa is a tennis court, free to use.
